How It All Started
Get to Know Our Owner, Bill.
Founded in 1970 as Highland Turf and rebranded as HTI Contractors in 1983, we’ve built a reputation for quality, integrity, and community. Bill, our owner, started as a laborer and worked his way up, embodying the hard work and values that define HTI Contractors.

Over the years, Bill’s hands-on approach and commitment to both his employees and the community have driven HTI’s success. He continues to lead the company with a focus on delivering exceptional results and maintaining the close-knit, family atmosphere that sets us apart.
Our History
1970
-
Highland Turf Inc. was established, specializing in turf establishment and seeding.
-
The company was based in Savage, MD.
1978
William McGrew joined Highland Turf Inc. as an operator and foreman, leading a small grading crew.
1986
William McGrew purchased Highland Turf Inc. and rebranded it as HTI Contractors, expanding its scope of services.
Late 1980s
Grading Services were introduced, marking the start of the company’s diversification.
Mid-1990s

Paving Services were added.

Completed major projects such as the Intercounty Connector (ICC)/MD 200.
1999
The company moved its headquarters from Savage, MD to Finksburg, MD.
Early 2000s

Expanded into environmental and utilities work.

First large-scale projects included the Columbia Gateway and Fairwood Development.
